Our Programs
Halo swaddle program
Beginning in 2014 our foundation partnered with Newman Regional Health to provide Halo swaddles to each newborn. The hospital is currently a Certified Safe Sleep Champion through Cribs for Kids and converted to Halo swaddles when the program was initiated. They provide training and education to new parents before discharge. To date the Wade Barrett Memorial Fund has provided over 2,000 swaddles to babies born at Newman Regional Health.

Community Baby Shower
In 2016 we initiated the Lyon County Community Baby Shower. The shower provided booths with information for new parents from other members of the community. It also provided parents with a safe sleep presentation. In exchange for their time with us each family received a safe sleep portable crib.
In it’s inaugural year we served 70 new families and had about 15 community partners. The fourth event, held on March 30, 2019 served 140 families and had 30 community partners. The event has grown quickly, and with additional funds we have been able to serve those counties surrounding Lyon County starting in 2019.

Wade’s Ride
Wade’s Ride is our yearly fundraiser started in 2010. To date, we have raised over $100,000.
Wade’s Ride, in it’s initial year, was a 125 mile motorcycle poker run through 4 small surrounding towns. We provide lunch and hold a silent auction. As the years have progressed we have tried a gravel bicycle ride and, for the first time, a 5k. Our small silent auction now ranges in numbers from 60-75 items. a BBQ lunch is served for all participants. We serve several hundred people throughout the day.
The money from this yearly fundraiser is used to sustain our swaddle and baby shower projects.

Match Day
Match Day, held every fall, in the Emporia Community is a large fundraising event for 25 community organizations. Chosen by an application process, these groups are given the chance to raise money in a 12 hour period and then have a percentage of their proceeds “matched” from some larger donors.
2018 was the first year The Wade Barrett Memorial Fund had participated. We have been chosen to be a part of the 2019 Match Day as well. Participation in this event allowed us to open our services to surrounding counties. We are now inviting 7 different counties to participate in the Community Baby Showers.
